The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) has released updated Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) maps as required under Government Code 51178. The City of Needles has been designated Moderate, the lowest possible hazard rating under the state’s classification system. Since joining the San Bernardino County Fire District in 2015, the Fire District has been responsible for managing fire protection services for the City, including oversight of the FHSZ mapping and public review process. All public comments submitted through this portal will be collected and reviewed by the San Bernardino County Fire District before the formal reading and adoption of the ordinance. Participation in this process directly supports the City Council’s goals of enhancing public safety, ensuring compliance with state regulations, and promoting community resilience.
