The Colorado River Board of California was established in 1937 by state statute to protect California’s rights and interests in the resources provided by the Colorado River and to represent the state in discussions and negotiations regarding the river and its management. The City of Needles, which is located along the Colorado River, depends on its water and hydroelectric power for growth and sustainability.
California’s rights to the water and power resources of the Colorado River are vital to the state’s economy, with seven counties in Southern California—home to about 17 million people, or more than half of the state’s population—relying on the river for water and hydroelectric energy. For Needles, these resources are crucial not only to the city’s prosperity, but also to supporting the broader Southern California region. Protecting and managing the Colorado River ensures the continued economic health of both Needles and our surrounding areas.
